The Role Of Art In Evoking The Emotions Of The Recipient

Emotions. What role do they play in the appreciation of art? To evoke emotions is the essential principle of all artworks. The feeling is crucial, regardless of whether it is fear, happiness, or disgust. Art is designed to make us feel something and spark conversation. What would it be if it wasn’t? Is it just a relic of a previous era? Indeed, everyone has wondered why certain of the artist’s activities appeal to some people while others do not. Why does one person gush over an art piece that another person dismisses because it makes them feel nothing?

Various emotions are also an inspiration for art. Artists are able to keep them in their unique works, passing them on to their recipients. In fact, all expressions of art are in some way marked by the emotions of artists – even if we cannot read it at first glance. What’s more, artists are also able to influence the emotional state of the recipients of their works and the best of them do it very effectively.

Images that are easy to perceive are usually not criticized. The “prettiness” of the exhibit and the ease of its reception and message are taken into account. That is what the average person can understand without even knowing the basic principles of reading art. Unfortunately, things are harder, in the matter of contemporary art or art that is more difficult to perceive, which requires a moment of reflection and at least the willingness to interpret. The types of emotions that can be evoked by works of art are being examined in the discipline of art research. Researchers keep trying to answer if specific emotions, such as anger, depression or happiness, or a more general reaction that places the recipient on the “like-disliking” line. The audience can experience a wide variety of emotions in response to art. It is worth taking a closer look at them, looking for signposts in coping with unpredictable situations.

In conclusion, emotions have always accompanied art. Art has also become a peculiar way of recording them and passing them on to the recipient. Artists can elicit specific feelings in viewers who connect with artwork by using proper painting techniques. Art consists in providing the recipient with new impressions and experiences related to the subject of a given work. the point is to deeply move the viewer so that what he saw (what he encountered and what he experienced) prompted him to reflect, think and sometimes act. Art is supposed to evoke emotions – regret, sympathy, amusement, seriousness. It is supposed to move and shock. To play on emotions, not when to arouse controversy. A viewer who is familiar with art is constantly gifted with aesthetic experiences. A certain invisible nothing is created between him and the author, which brings them closer to each other and serves to establish a relationship. The emotional function makes it impossible to pass by certain works indifferently because their content and the way in which the form was presented prompts the recipient to make an intellectual effort and reflect on many problems.
