The development of art in the era of the new creative economy

Over the past couple of decades, art has created a significant connection with new technologies. The development of digital art has started encouraging experimentation and pushing the boundaries of the traditional forms of art. The world of digital art fascinates with its versatility and precision in the creation of visual effects.

Nowadays, with the help of very complex programs, artists can create extraordinary images without delving deep into hidden algorithms. Unfortunately, for many people, the concept of digital art is still debatable. They believe that an artwork created with the help of a computer does not have the characteristics of artistic creation. In other words, a computer cannot stimulate an artist’s talent and sensibility, and only traditional media can genuinely reflect that. That could give the impression of detachment between digital artwork and direct contact with its creator. Without a doubt, the traditional artist has a deep physical connection with a piece of art, which lets them convey feelings on the canvas with intimacy. With this way of expressing feelings, creators can fall into a trance and focus on the creative process. Also, the fact that traditional artists create one original work of art each time reveals the very nature of the uniqueness of each piece. On the other hand, artists are actively searching for different, innovative tools that will be the most suitable to help them express themselves.

Due to the flexibility of virtually infinite options for transforming an already existing piece, modern technology offers endless possibilities for realisation, and development of creativity, along with communication of emotions. Furthermore, one should not forget that computer-generated artworks are made by artists, as programs do not create the image by themselves. The artist is the initiator who gives the computer instructions on how to produce the desired image. Moreover, the artist is still fully involved in many ways, such as planning the concept, the subject, or colour combinations, etc. Perhaps it is time to reject the myth of lesser art and classify it according to talent and creativity rather than technique? The avant-garde has proved that the boundaries of art are not entirely stable, which can expand to different aspects of reality. Another crucial element of both digital and traditional art is the vision of the artist. It is not only the technology that makes the artwork appealing but also the way of its usage. Therefore, the process of separating technology and art should stop.

By sticking only to traditional methods, certain predictability of concepts is evident. The projects made with new, digital tools show that ideas for art go beyond the realms with which we are familiar. There are forms of art that are so far unknown to us at the moment; however, they might turn out to be fascinating.
